Driving north - Stilton, Cambridgeshire; Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire; Gunthorpe & Worksop, Nottinghamshire; and Sheffield, South Yorkshire
The Stilton Cheese Inn where we learnt that Stilton cheese is not, and never has been, made in Stilton. It actually originates from Melton Mowbray and was first sold in Stilton! Still, we had a very yummy broccoli and Stilton soup for lunch!!

And, of course, Melton Mowbray is definitely the home of the famous pork pie!
|
Authentic Melton Mowbray pork pies...some of which we purchased for dinner that night!

The house in Worksop in which my 2xgreat grandfather, Henry Cadman, and his family lived from 1877. The current owner generously invited me in to view a file containing every deed to the house since it was built in the 1860s. Among them was Henry's deed. The deeds are kept in a file which is to remain in the house forever.

The street in Sheffield in which Henry Cadman and family lived in the late 1860s and early 1870s. The census doesn't identify the house exactly but suggests it might have been in of these houses.
