First sight of the remains of Kilchurn Castle, birthplace in February 1629 of my 7xgreat grandfather, Sir Ewen Dubh Cameron of Lochiel, 17th Chief of Clan Cameron. Standing at the head of Loch Awe on what is today a low, rocky mound, but which, in mediaeval times, was an island, Kilchurn Castle was built, probably, around 1440 by Margaret, wife of Sir Colin Campbell, first Laird of Glenurquhay.
